Seminar on climate change crisis and its impact on tribals

A two-day seminar on the topic of climate change crisis and its impact on tribals and other traditional forest-dependent communities is being held on 27 and 28 June 2024 at Dr. Ramdayal Munda Janjati Kalyan Shodh Sansthan Morabadi, Ranchi under the aegis of Institute of Community Forest Governance, Ranchi, Jharkhand. The inaugural session on the first day will start at 10 am. After that, the first session will discuss the understanding of climate crisis and its ill effects.

In this session, representatives from Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi will share their experiences of climate crisis in their state and region. After lunch, in the afternoon session, there will be discussion mainly on the actions, programs and policies being taken at the government level on climate crisis. In this sequence, knowledgeable representatives will present their views on the government's response to the climate crisis, government's initiative to reduce climate crisis and climate justice.

There will also be discussion on the points of consideration of forest conservation amendment, tree plantation and market policy rules of carbon credit and green credit. In the sessions of the second day, important issues like just transition in energy sector, green energy and its impact on tribals and forest-dependent communities, reconsideration of government's climate action plan and need to redefine climate justice and future programs and strategies will be discussed. In the two-day program, mainly participants and representatives working on forest environment and forest rights issues will participate. Representatives of some social organizations and NGOs from various districts of Jharkhand will also be present in it. Along with this, about 120 people including knowledgeable and intellectuals from some other states will participate as representatives.
