Samvaad 2024, the acclaimed tribal conclave, will return to Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur, from November 15-19, bringing together nearly 2,500 participants from 168 tribes across India. Kicking off with a tribute to Birsa Munda, the "Dharti Aaba" of tribal heritage, the five-day event will include a symbolic drumming ceremony by 351 nagadas, representing 32 tribes.
Sourav Roy, CEO, Tata Steel Foundation said that now in its 11th year, Samvaad will feature numerous first-time participants, inspired by long-term attendees. Highlights include 40 new tribal home cooks, 19 artisans' stalls showcasing unique crafts, and 99 healers preparing a visionary roadmap for the next decade. Cultural performances from Neigi, Hajong, Kokani, and Paraja tribes will add to the vibrant mix.
Gopal Maidan will host 45 stalls, where 117 artisans from 28 tribes will display traditional artworks and crafts. Additionally, 31 stalls run by tribal healers will demonstrate indigenous healing practices, while 8 food stalls will feature authentic tribal cuisine, including medicinal plant-infused dishes in the "Aatithya Zone." A unique aspect this year is the option to order tribal dishes via the Zomato app, bringing Samvaad’s flavors to a broader audience.
Samvaad 2024 will also debut 30 original literary, artistic, film, and musical works, and feature the release of the Rhythms of the Earth cohort’s second album, created with Ladakh-based band Da Shugs. With stalls, cuisine, and dynamic performances, Samvaad continues to celebrate and amplify India’s rich tribal heritage.
