The 90th death anniversary of Utkal Sammilani founder-president Utkalgaurab Madhusudan Das was observed here on Sunday.
Members of the Utkal Sammilani central committee led by its general secretary Radhanath Praharaj paid floral tributes to the statue of Madhubabu near the Raj Bhavan.
A memorial meeting was held in Nuagaon presided over by president Basant Kuamar Tripathy. The speakers lamented that Odia language is not being used in the government offices and the courts.
The State Government as per its earlier promise should ensure that all official files be written in Odia compulsorily. Besides, in all signages, whether government or private, Odia should find a prominent place. It would be a befitting tribute to Madhubabu, the speakers opined.
Among others, Prof Kashinath Rath, Banambar Parida, Prabhabhakar Panda trinath Panda and Jitendra Kumar Padhi were present.
At another function, members of the Sammilani paid floral tributes at the statue of Madhubabu.
The function was presided over by Utkal Sammilani State president Ananta Jena and Mancheswar branch president Dillip Dashsharma coordinated it. The speakers, besides recalling the many contributions of Madhubabu for Odisha, demanded Bharat Ratna for him.
