AIIMS Bhopal has been organizing outreach activities for budding students. In this sequence, an educational visit of class 10th and 11th students of Sagar Public School was organized on Saturday. Dr. Ashwani Tandon, Associate Dean (Academics) informed that it was an extraordinary experience for the students, especially as a student of Biology, who got the opportunity to understand the concepts of human anatomy in a more in-depth manner.
The visit of the students started from the Anatomy Museum. In this, they observed various carefully preserved human organs. They visited various laboratories of translational medicine and observed the sophisticated equipment that doctors use to diagnose various diseases. Information about the process of extracting DNA from blood, saw the operation of several machines including homogenizer, gel electrophoresis apparatus, UV transilluminator and PCR machine (polymerase chain reaction machine). The complex steps involved in PCR were explained comprehensively.
After this, the students had the privilege of meeting Prof. Dr Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS and engaging in an interactive session with him. Through this interaction, they gained insights into pursuing careers in other fields that fall under the purview of science. Dr Ajai Singh broadened the program and encouraged them to explore more in radiology and medicine.
The feedback from all the students stated that they felt extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to visit AIIMS and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their school teacher Shikha, Principal and doctors of AIIMS Bhopal, especially Dr Rupinder Kaur Kanwar, Dr Sunita Athavale and Executive Director Prof. Dr Ajai Singh for this experience.
