Following a train accident today under the Chakradharpur railway division, safety drives have been relooked at various railway stations falling in the Dhanbad railway division.
Stress is on all right signal exchange. It's a very important activity for averting any mishap. Station master or porter does it mostly.
Any train standing in the yard is to be secured fully so as it doesn't start rolling on the track itself.
The standing train in the yard is secured with a wood block beneath its wheels and further with chain and padlock - all to prevent any rolling out of the train in any freak manner.
Doors of the goods trains are to be secured properly so as not to chase any problem with another train passing by the next track.
Gateman at the railway crossings is to be extremely vigilant to discover if anything like rod or pipe etc is dangling beneath the coach or bogie which may cause unforeseen problems.
Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar said "Accidents do happen. We feel sad. We in the railways respect human lives most. Life of the passenger as well as life of our railway staff matter most and equally important."
Umesh Kumar said "We believe in 24x7 safety. There is no room for any laxity. Railways hold safety at the highest of its agenda."
There is a provision for night inspection. It is to see there is neither dereliction of duty nor any laxity.
However a train driver requesting anonymity said "We are overworked. We miss proper sleep. It does affect our level of alertness."
About the caution note Daltonganj station superintendent Umesh Kumar said "It is given to the engine crew very sincerely and seriously. An engine crew is duty bound to follow the caution note. No engine crew can take any liberty with the caution note.It is seen as the most indiscipline act on the part of the engine crew if the caution note is violated or defied. There is no excuse for it."
Sources said privatisation to the railways is most dangerous as professionalism is a big miss where private players are handling the trains.
