As Sadar Hospital Latehar has no anesthetist, there has been no cesarean operation done here for many years. Pregnant women in need of urgent surgical procedures are advised to visit mission hospital at Tumbagara or some higher centre in Ranchi.
Civil surgeon Latehar Dr Awadesh Singh told this correspondent "We don't have a single anesthetist here in the whole of the district health care system."
Civil surgeon conceded "How can you go for C section intervention when you don't have an anesthetist? It's a major problem here."
Again there is also no surgeon here. Lady medical officers used to do C section long long ago when there was a lone anesthetist in Dr Sunil Kandula.
Following his transfer from here these lady medical officers are just hands tied when it comes to conducting C section.
A health official Ved Prakash said "We had sought services for surgeon, forensic expert, anesthetist, radiologist and general duty medical officer through the DMFT."
Ved Prakash added "We didn't get an anesthetist. We did get a radiologist and general duty medical officer."
As regards surgeon, Ved Prakash said "The surgeon through the DMFT is yet to join the Sadar Hospital Latehar."
There don't appear to be any forensic experts for the job through the DMFT.
