Locals protested for over four hours after employees of the electricity department went to disconnect a temporary power connection at Khejra Baramad on Tuesday.
People got angry at the team which came to cut the temporary electricity connection. In protest, they sat on the road and closed the main roads. After assurance, they left the spot. They have complained to Minister Krishna Gaur.
Residents said that they are being asked to deposit Rs 1 lakh or more in the name of permanent connection. How to pay such a huge amount?
Khejra Baramda located in Ward-74 was flooded two days ago on Saturday-Sunday. There are major colonies like Radhakrishna, Tirupati City, Punyadham Colony, Nikunj Dham Colony, Pushpanand City in this area. There are more than 300 houses.
Khejra Baramda has mostly illegal colonies. Due to this, illegal electricity connections are being made legal here. People here have temporary connections. These are being cut and permanent connections are being made. The electricity company is providing connections up to 7 kilowatts. In return, Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh are being deposited.
Resident Mukesh Sahu said that he lives in Pratibha City. He has applied for a domestic electricity connection. In return, he has been asked to deposit Rs 1,24,000.
Resident Honey Sharma said that the team of the electricity company reaches the colony every day to cut temporary connections. On Tuesday also, they had come to cut the connection. People got angry with this and blocked the road. Many people sat on the road itself.
People sat on the road for about four hours in Khejra Baramada. During this time, children and women were also present on the spot. Due to the protest, the team of the electricity company had to return. The department has given a few days' time. The residents also complained to Minister Gaur.
He said that he is ready to deposit the amount as per the rules.
