Ramdas Soren to replace Champai in State Cabinet

Friday, 30 August 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Ramdas Soren, a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) from the Kolhan region, is poised to step into the role previously held by former Chief Minister Champai Soren in the Jharkhand cabinet this Friday.

Simultaneously, Champai Soren will make his official switch to the BJP in Ranchi, where he will be welcomed by Union Minister and Jharkhand election in-charge Shivraj Singh Chauhan, along with co-election in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Ramdas Soren, who is the sitting MLA from Ghatshila and the senior-most leader in Kolhan following Champai Soren, will be sworn in at a ceremony scheduled for 11 am on August 30 at Raj Bhawan in Ranchi.

There were earlier rumors that Ramdas Soren might join the BJP alongside Champai Soren after the latter's recent trip to Delhi, but Ramdas has refuted these claims.

Both Ramdas and Champai Soren, along with Shibu Soren, were instrumental in the Jharkhand movement that led to the formation of the state. Ramdas Soren is also recognized for his strong influence within the tribal communities in the Kolhan region.

Champai Soren tendered his resignation from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and his ministerial position late on Wednesday evening.

In the meantime, the BJP has organized a grand ceremony on August 30 to formally induct Champai Soren into the party. The event will be attended by State in-charge Laxmikant Vajpayee, election in-charge Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and co-in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Champai Soren is expected to join the BJP along with thousands of his supporters, under the leadership of BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi.

Meanwhile, Marandi said that in the assembly elections, the state BJP will make a resolution that touches all and is inclusive in accordance with the aspirations of the people. Marandi was addressing a press conference at the state office today.

He said that the party's manifesto committee is doing this work under the coordination of MLA Anant Ojha. He said that in the coming days, three state level leaders will visit each district on behalf of the manifesto making committee, who will establish dialogue with different groups and sections of the society and collect suggestions.

He said that written suggestions will also be taken through leaflets in the manifesto suggestion box in all the divisions.
