From June 1 to August 29, Jharkhand has received a cumulative rainfall of 714.8 mm as against the normal amount of 786.5 mm.
As per the data shared by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the rainfall deficit across the State has reduced to 9 percent and as of now, the rainfall recorded in Jharkhand this monsoon is in the normal range of +19% to -19%. However, it is still below the exact normal required.
The State capital has witnessed 860.6 mm of rainfall while the required amount is considered to be 804.4 mm. Rainfall in Ranchi has been observed in the normal range at 7 percent.
The maximum rainfall has been recorded in Simdega at 10 percent. Rainfall realised here is 1117.3 mm as against the required amount of 1013.7 mm. However, maximum deficit has been observed in Pakur at 51 percent with only 435.4 mm of rainfall realised as against the required amount of 884.8 mm. This is followed by Lohardaga at with 501.3 mm of rainfall received against the normal amount of 769.6 mm with a deficit of 35 percent.
For the coming few days, the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi has issued a forecast of light to moderate showers across the State from August 30 to September 2. This could also be accompanied with thunderstorm and lighting activity.
“Till about September 4, monsoon will be slightly weak in the State. This is because the monsoon trough will be passing below Jharkhand. However, it is expected to revive across Jharkhand. A slight increase in the temperature is also predicted. There are also chances of thunderstorm and lighting in some places,” said Director MET Centre, Ranchi Abhishek Anand.
The department has also issued a safety advice for the residents of the State asking them to stay away from trees and electric poles during any thunderstorm and lighting activity to avoid any mishaps.
