Extending his emotional connection with Sultanpur cobbler Ramchet, Congress MP from Rae Bareli Rahul Gandhi spoke to him over the phone on Monday to inquire about his well-being. Gandhi praised the shoes that Ramchet had sent him, saying, “You have made them beautifully.”

He also mentioned that he walked around his residence wearing the shoes. A video of this went viral on social media on Monday evening, prompting local journalists to contact Ramchet, who confirmed the phone call with Rahul Gandhi.

Ramchet runs a shop at Vidhayak Nagar crossing on the Ayodhya-Prayagraj National Highway in Sultanpur. On July 26, Rahul Gandhi unexpectedly visited his shop after attending a defamation case at the MP-MLA Magistrate Court. During his visit, Gandhi learned about Ramchet’s business struggles and inquired about the challenges he was facing.

Rahul Gandhi assisted him by pasting the sole of a shoe and stitching a slipper, and left promising to provide further help. The following day, Gandhi’s team delivered an electric machine for stitching shoes to Ramchet. In return, Ramchet sent two pairs of shoes costing Rs 1,400 to Gandhi, with the cost covered by Gandhi’s team.

Around 11 am on Monday, Ramchet received a call from Rahul Gandhi. Overjoyed, he spoke with Gandhi, who asked about his well-being and business, praised the shoes, and inquired about the new sewing machine. Ramchet addressed Rahul Gandhi as 'Malik,' but Gandhi requested that he refrain from using that term. Ramchet asked when he might see Gandhi again, to which Gandhi replied, “Soon.” Ramchet became emotional while sharing the details of this conversation.
