Punjab Police nabbed four members of the infamous Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang after a high-speed chase on the Jalandhar-Batala highway, recovering a significant cache of arms and two luxury SUVs, revealing an international network supplying illegal weapons to Punjab.

The state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday said that the arrested gang members, identified as Asrat Kanth alias Sabi, Kamalpreet Singh alias Komal Bajwa, Pardeep Kumar alias Gora, and Gurmeet Raj alias Juneja, were found in possession of five weapons, including a China-made 7.65 mm Glock pistol, two .30 bore pistols, a revolver, four live cartridges, and three magazines. The police also impounded a Mahindra XUV (PB-09-3039) and a Brezza (PB-09-EP-7100) used in the crimes.

DGP Yadav revealed that the gang leader, Asrat Kanth alias Sabi, confessed during interrogation that the weapons were supplied by Aman alias Anda, a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang currently based in Germany. The arms were funneled through Sanju alias Sahil Kumar, a Batala resident currently incarcerated.

These individuals are linked to several criminal cases, including attempted murder, illegal arms possession, and gang-related violence across various districts in Punjab.

Jalandhar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh detailed the operation during a press conference, stating that the police acted on a tip-off and intercepted the suspects' vehicles near Lahdra village. While two suspects were immediately apprehended, a chase ensued, ending with the capture of the remaining two near Jinda Road in Maqsuda. However, a fifth suspect, Sajandeep alias Loda, managed to escape and remains at large.

This gang had previously been involved in a deadly shootout at Batala’s Gandhi Camp on July 23. SSP Khakh praised the police teams for their efforts in this successful operation. The accused will be produced before a local court for further investigation into their operations and international connections.

Interstate Arms Smuggling Racket Busted with 1 Arrest
In a significant breakthrough against illegal arms smuggling, Punjab Police's State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar, has dismantled an interstate arms racket, arresting one individual and seizing four .32 bore pistols. The state DGP Gaurav Yadav said that one Vinod Kumar alias Rahul from Giyaspura in Ludhiana has been arrested.

He has a criminal history involving theft and snatching, said DGP Yadav, revealing that the SSOC received intelligence about Vinod's plans to smuggle weapons from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab, leading to a swift operation near Gharuan Kharar Toll Plaza. The police team intercepted Vinod and recovered two .32 bore pistols, with two more pistols found at a location he disclosed during interrogation.

Further investigations have uncovered Vinod’s involvement in supplying illegal arms to various gangs in Punjab, as well as providing logistical support. DIG Counter Intelligence J Elanchezian noted that Vinod had established connections with gangsters while in Ludhiana Jail, facilitating his role in the arms smuggling network. He had previously smuggled two heavy arms consignments from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, delivering them in Mohali.

A case has been registered under the Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station SSOC, SAS Nagar. The investigation continues as authorities work to trace the network's backward and forward linkages to apprehend other involved criminals.
