Punjab’s Cyber Helpline ‘1930’ Enhanced with New Call Centre and Chatbot

Tuesday, 15 October 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab’s fight against cybercrime received a significant boost on Monday as the state DGP Gaurav Yadav inaugurated an enhanced call centre for the ‘Cyber Helpline 1930’ and launched the ‘Cyber Mittar Chatbot’ to assist citizens with cybercrime queries. The initiative aimed at streamlining reporting processes for victims of cyber financial fraud and ensure quick resolutions.

During the inauguration, DGP Yadav conducted a trial call to the helpline, interacting directly with a representative to assess its functionality. He emphasized that the Cyber Helpline 1930 allows victims to freeze their funds in the accounts of suspected fraudsters immediately upon filing a complaint, showcasing its effectiveness as a Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Since its inception in September 2021, the helpline has registered 26,625 complaints related to various cyber frauds. The Cybercrime Cell has acted swiftly to lien mark an impressive Rs 57 crore of victims’ funds in suspects' accounts, achieving a success rate of 17 percent in 2024. “These innovations will empower citizens in the digital world and enhance the reporting of cybercrimes,” said DGP Yadav.

ADGP V Neeraja, head of the Punjab Cybercrime Division, highlighted the establishment of 28 new Cyber Police Stations in March 2024, which has resulted in 205 FIRs being registered and investigated. This expansion has strengthened police capabilities and improved public awareness about cybercrime.

The newly launched Cyber Mittar Chatbot offers 24X7 support for citizens seeking information on cybercrime prevention and reporting. Accessible via https://cybercrime.punjabpolice.gov.in, the chatbot facilitates confidential reporting and offers support in multiple languages, including Punjabi, to ensure inclusivity. Within the next 15 days, the chatbot will also be integrated with WhatsApp, further enhancing accessibility.
