Thursday, 05 September 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by his 35-year-old neighbour in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area.

According to the police on Wednesday, the matter surfaced on Tuesday when the boy told some people that he was touched in an inappropriate manner by the neighbour on Sunday. However, no such allegations were made by him and his family before that. The accused has been identified as Balram Dass alias Kalu.

The family of the boy had approached the local police stating that the six-year-old was missing on September 1 and a case under section 137(2) BNS was registered in respect of missing/kidnapping of a boy on the statement of his mother Radha,” a senior police officer said while giving details of the case. He added that however, the boy was traced by his family after a few hours and taken to the police station.

“On Sunday at about 12:30 pm, the boy was traced by her family and  brought him to the police station. The boy got medically examined at AIIMS Hospital at 4:51 pm on the same day. Related interrogation and statements were also recorded. After medical examination the boy was sent to the Boys Care Home Lajpat Nagar, Delhi by the Inspecting Officer. During this time, the family accompanied the boy. The family had not alleged any sexual assault till Monday,” another officer stated. On Tuesday, the statement of the boy was recorded before a magistrate and nothing incriminating was stated by him. However, when he was taken before the Child Welfare Committee, he alleged that the accused inappropriately touched him.

A case was registered under section 8 of POCSO Act and the accused Balram Dass alias Kalu was arrested on Tuesday night. “While the accused was brought, the public gathered in large numbers as the area is densely populated with slums and multi storey flats and crowd including ladies tried to attack the accused and the staff. The local police however managed to bring the accused to the police station safely despite the huge crowd and their efforts to attack police staff and the accused,” he said.
