Poll schedules no surprise in Palamu

Wednesday, 16 October 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

The ECI's holding press conference today in regard to the poll schedules for the assembly elections in the states Jharkhand and Maharashtra didn't come as any surprise.

People had expected it most on Monday. The BJP knew when it was to come.

Hours before the ECI's press conference this correspondent was told by a senior BJP leader about ECI's declaration of poll schedules today early this morning itself.

This correspondent met a cross section of people to know their first reactions. Some were indifferent. They declined to speak. Some said it's time to teach a lesson to the MLAs. They have done nothing. They had made huge promises.

Political analysts believe Palamu may see an extreme type of polarisation of votes.

In the lok sabha elections there were elements in the society who had dubbed some booths as Burqa booths for the simple reason of Burqa wearing voters had cast their votes.

Palamu administration had conducted the lok sabha election in all fairness and transparency. There was not even a whimper of complaint from any side.

Again the team that had conducted the lok sabha election here is unchanged. DC Shashi Ranjan and SP Reeshma Ramesan will be playing front foot for the assembly election again as what they had worked for the lok sabha election here in Palamu.

Assembly election is much different from the lok sabha election. In the assembly election faces of the contestants, their skin colours, whether they wear a beard or topi or whether their foreheads have a paste of sandal wood etc are checked.

Brawl at the polling stations is feared most in assembly elections. There are numerous instances of resistance at the polling stations here in the assembly election in Palamu.
