Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot, on Wednesday, demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the alleged multi-billion rupees scandal and resignation of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chief.
Addressing a press conference at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters here on Wednesday, former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, raised the recent issues surrounding the SEBI and its chairperson. He criticised the delay in the factual report by SEBI regarding alleged connections and scandals involving the Adani Group and SEBI chairperson.
Pilot demanded a JPC investigation into the alleged multi-billion rupee scandal, calling for the SEBI chairperson’s resignation until the probe is completed.
Pilot noted that the Supreme Court had directed the Central government to investigate the matter, questioning the impartiality and quality of such an investigation given the chairperson’s suspected involvement.
He emphasised the need for a JPC investigation to uncover the truth, as the Central government remains silent on the issue.
Pilot highlighted that the Supreme Court had specifically called for a factual investigation into the allegations against SEBI, which are widely discussed both nationally and internationally.
He criticised the Central government for failing to address transparency issues, focusing instead on targeting opposition parties and misusing agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Pilot accused the government of sidelining important issues like the management of national ports and airports, and targeting opposition figures while ignoring corruption and mismanagement.
Pilot also addressed the public sentiment expressed in the recent Lok Sabha elections, pointing out that the electorate is increasingly rejecting exploitative politics. He criticised the Central government for its policy reversals and the controversial agricultural laws that led to the deaths of farmers.
Regarding the Bharat Bandh called by various organisations, Pilot expressed support for the peaceful protest, emphasising that it should remain non-violent to effectively convey the grievances of Dalits, backward classes, and other marginalised groups.
Pilot concluded by criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party for its internal conflicts and poor performance in state elections. He predicted that the BJP would lose in the upcoming state elections, and that the Congress and the INDIA bloc would emerge victorious.
He also commented on the recent budget, labeling it as politically motivated due to disparities in allocations for different states.
