Over 30 injured as high voltage line falls on several houses

Friday, 20 September 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

More than 30 people were injured in Kannauj when a high tension (HT) power line fell onto rooftops, causing severe electric shocks.

The incident occurred in Simant Nagar under Gursahaiganj police station, where the current from the broken high tension line spread in seven houses, affecting both men and women.

The local residents rushed to rescue the victims, who were admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

Two individuals, who were in serious condition, were referred to a medical college hospital for further treatment.

The incident sparked panic throughout the locality, with residents immediately informing the power officials about the mishap.

It was reported that the current flowed for about 15 minutes before the power supply was finally cut off. During this time, several electrical appliances, including refrigerators and coolers, were damaged.

Following the incident, there was considerable outrage among the villagers towards the electricity department. Many residents expressed their frustration, stating that they had previously raised concerns about the dangerously positioned high tension line multiple times to department officials, but no action was taken.

The residents are now demanding that the high tension line be shifted underground to prevent future accidents. They have threatened to stage protests if their concerns are not addressed promptly, highlighting the negligence they believe contributed to this unfortunate event.
