: Former MP and senior Congress leader Dr. Ajoy Kumar has sharply criticized Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy, claiming that no significant development has taken place in the constituency over the past five years. In a press statement issued on Sunday, Dr. Kumar accused Roy of failing to resolve long-standing issues related to basic amenities, particularly clean drinking water and road infrastructure.
Dr. Kumar pointed out that the Mohrada water supply scheme, which provides drinking water to the area, continues to deliver contaminated and foul-smelling water. He stated, "In five years, there has been no improvement in the water supply, and the residents are still being forced to consume unclean water. Saryu Roy has been a mute spectator to this issue." He further added that residents now understand that Roy is adept at making promises but lacks the political will to take concrete action.
Dr. Ajoy also criticized the condition of the road from Jemco Chowk to South Gate, describing it as a major hazard for residents. "The road has not changed in five years," Kumar said, emphasizing the frequent accidents and deaths that occur due to its poor condition. He noted that the road is frequently used by heavy vehicles, resulting in further deterioration, and that there are no street lights, causing additional hardships for locals, particularly during the monsoon when water accumulates on the road.
According to Kumar, despite multiple complaints to Jusco and assurances from MLA Saryu Roy, no action has been taken to repair the road. "Five years have gone by in planning, but no real work has been done on the ground," he remarked.
Dr. Kumar further accused both the BJP and Saryu Roy of betraying the people of Jamshedpur East. He said that the BJP, which held power for 25 years under former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, failed to address key issues such as property ownership in the region. Now, Kumar argues, Saryu Roy has similarly let down the residents over the past five years.
"Saryu Roy should tell us what significant work he has accomplished in five years. There is nothing notable or underlined in terms of development," Kumar asserted. He highlighted the continued suffering of residents in slum areas like Kalyannagar and Indranagar, accusing Roy of ignoring their plight. Dr. Kumar also mentioned the National Green Tribunal (NGT) case, alleging that Roy kept slum dwellers in the dark about critical developments.
