Thursday, 27 June 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the NEET question paper leak case, has taken Hazaribagh’s Oasis School principal Ehsanul Haque into custody.  The arrest was made after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday, reached Oasis School which is alleged to be the origin of the NEET-UG paper leak. As per sources, the CBI team conducted a raid at the principal's residence after the investigation was officially handed over to the agency on Monday, June 24.

After taking him into custody after four hours of interrogation, CBI sleuths brought him to the guest house of the Central Coalfields Ltd in Charhi located along the Hazaribagh-Ranchi highway.

Hazaribagh’s Oasis School principal Ehsanul Haque was allegedly involved in the NEET paper leak where a question paper was found tampered with. The tampering evidence was submitted in a report to the Union Education Ministry, it is learnt.

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) team reached Jharkhand initially went to the SBI bank following which they discussed the case with Dr Ehsanul Haque, the principal of Oasis School and the district coordinator for the NEET exam.

This report contained complete information about the investigation progress till June 21. The report mentions the evidence and facts as well as the confessional statements of the accused.

This prompted the Ministry to involve the National Testing Agency (NTA) and hand over the matter to the CBI for further investigation.

On Tuesday, the CBI submitted a copy of the FIR to the special court in Patna and sought the remand of the accused arrested by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police.

Eight accused have been named in the FIR, including Sanjeev Mukhiya, Sikandar Yadavendu, Amit Anand, Ayush Raj, Nitish Kumar, Rakhi, Akhilesh, and Bittu.

The CBI is investigating six cases related to the NEET paper leak. Of the six cases, one each is from Bihar, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, while three are from Rajasthan.

However,  on Monday  the principal of the Hazaribagh school, where investigators suspect the NEET-UG leak originated from, has told media persons  that a digital lock on two boxes containing question papers did not open at 1.15 pm on May 5 as it was supposed to, because of which they had to use a cutter.

According to officials, the boxes come with two locks – one is manual, and the other digital. While there is a key and cutter to open the former, the latter is supposed to unlock automatically 45 minutes before the examination. At Oasis School in Hazaribagh, this did not happen.
