Necessary to provide basic facilities required by ordinary players: Saryu

Former Olympian Harbhajan Singh inaugurated the basketball court built by Jamshedpur Krida Udyan, Sidgora on Saturday. This court has been funded by the MLA fund of Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy.

After the inauguration, Harbhajan Singh praised MLA Saryu Roy for fulfilling his promise of constructing the court within a year. He emphasized the importance of sports in instilling discipline and a winning spirit. Harbhajan commended Shri Rai for his noble deed, highlighting how sports cultivate problem-solving skills and the ability to win.

MLA  expressed his concern about the limited access ordinary players have to Tata Steel's excellent sports facilities. To address this, he decided to support sports infrastructure development through government assistance. A sum of Rs 76 lakh from his MLA fund has been used to build the basketball court. This month, additional facilities for archery, netball, handball, table tennis, snooker, and carrom will also be inaugurated.

Roy emphasized his commitment to developing permanent sports infrastructure accessible to the common man. He mentioned JNAC's expanded role in developing sports facilities, expressing happiness over this progress.

The event also featured an exhibition match with teams from Ramakrishna Mission School and ISWP. National and international players, along with former coaches like Satvir Singh from Special Olympics, attended the program.

Before the match, Neepu and Roshni performed a beautiful dance, and two girls welcomed the guests with tilak and a welcome song, "Aarambh Hai Prachand."

ISWP girls win, Ramakrishna boys triumph in a tough competition

Jamshedpur: A total of eight basketball teams participated on Saturday, with five boys' teams and three girls' teams.

The boys' teams included Ramakrishna Mission School, Sidgora, ISWP, SDSM Sidgora, Baridiha High School, and Sister Nivedita English High School. The girls' teams included Ramakrishna Mission School Sidgora, ISWP, and Sister Nivedita English High School, Burma Mines.

In Pool A, Ramakrishna Mission, Sidgora, and ISWP competed, while Baridiha High School, Sister Nivedita High School, and SDSM School, Sidgora were in Pool B.  The ISWP girls' team emerged victorious, defeating Ramakrishna Mission School 8-2. In the boys' match, Ramakrishna Mission, Sidgora, narrowly beat ISWP 15-14.
