NDA wins 9 seats, INDI Alliance finishes with 5 in State

Wednesday, 05 June 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

The National Democratic Alliance finished with nine seats in the General Elections 2024 in the State, while INDIA block candidates won in five parliamentary constituencies.

However, there was a reason to celebrate for the INDI Alliance as unlike the 2019 general elections, when they won only two seats out of 14 seats in the State, this time they could grab three extra seats.

Union Minister Arjun Munda faced a major setback as he was defeated by a huge margin of 149675 votes by Congress’ Kalicharan Munda in Khunti constituency. The elder brother of BJP leader Neelkanth Munda, Kalicharan Munda, had lost the 2019 and 2014 elections by a narrow margin of a few hundred votes in Khunti.

Similarly, Geeta Koda, who switched sides to BJP from Congress just before the elections, was defeated by 168402 votes in Singhbhum seat by JMM’s Joba Manjhi. Koda had won the seat in 2019 on a Congress ticket.

In a setback to JMM chief Shibu Soren’s daughter in law and BJP candidate from Dumka Sita Soren, JMM’s Nalin Soren registered win by a margin of 21585 votes. BJP’s Sunil Soren had won the seat in 2019.

Congress’ Sukhdeo Bhagat won the Lohardaga seat by 126991 votes defeating the saffron party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sameer Oraon. BJP had denied ticket to three-time MP Sudharshan Bhagat and given a chance to Oraon.

In Rajmahal constituency, JMM candidate and sitting MP Vijay Kumar Hansdak won by 177272 votes. He was contesting against BJP’s former state president Tala Marandi.

On the rest of the seats the NDA maintained its winning streak. In Jamshedpur BJP’s Vidyut Varan Mahto won by 143433 votes against JMM’s Sameer Mohanty. In Ranchi BJP’s Sanjay Seth won by 120512 votes against Congress’ Yashaswini Sahay, daughter of former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay.

BJP’s firebrand MP Nishikant Dubey won the Godda seat by 101813 votes against Congress’ Pradeep Yadav.

In Chatra BJP’s Kalicharan Singh won by 217493 votes against Congress’ KN Tripathi, while in Giridih AJSU Party’s CP Chaudhary won by 80880 votes against JMM’s Mathura Mahto.

In Koderma Union Minister Annapurna Devi of BJP won by 352403 votes against CPI-ML’s Vinod Singh, while in Hazaribag BJP’s Manish Jaiswal won by 276686 votes against Congress’ JP Patel.

Former Jharkhand DGP and BJP candidate from Palamu won his seat by a huge margin of 288807 votes against RJD’s Mamta Bhuiyan, while in Dhanbad BJP’s Dhulu Mahto won by 298131votes against Congress’ Anupama Singh.
