In a breakthrough in the Nature Heights Infra Limited scam, Punjab Police has apprehended the prime suspect, Neeraj Thathai alias Neeraj Arora, who had been evading arrest for nearly a decade, and was facing more than a hundred cases. Thathai was apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the Faridkot and Fazilka police teams from the Pauri district in Uttarakhand.
The Nature Heights Infra Limited scam, operated by the Abohar-based Thathai couple, involved duping investors by enticing them with promises of affordable residential and commercial plots in prime locations across Punjab. However, the company abruptly shut down its operations, leaving investors in the lurch. Investigations later revealed that many of the promised colonies lacked government approval, and the company failed to deliver on its commitments, resulting in financial losses for investors.
The arrest of Thathai follows closely on the heels of the arrest of Amandeep Kamboj, alias Aman Skoda, from Varanasi by the PO staff of Fazilka Police from Varanasi Uttar Pradesh on March 15, this year. Kamboj, a proclaimed offender in eight cases, was wanted by authorities for his involvement in various criminal activities. In 18 cases, he jumped bail.
Faridkot range Inspector-General Gursharan Singh Sandhu and Ferozepur range Deputy Inspector General Ranjit Singh Dhillon, addressing a joint press conference, commended the collaborative efforts of the police teams involved in Thathai's arrest. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Fazilka Superintendent of Police Pardeep Singh Sandhu and Faridkot Deputy Superintendent of Police Iqbal Singh Sandhu, with oversight from Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Harjit Singh and his Fazilka counterpart Dr Pragya Jain.
Investigations have uncovered Thathai's extensive assets, including over 1200 acres of land and 200 residential flats in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, collectively valued at more than Rs 1,000 crores. Despite his attempts to evade arrest using counterfeit identification documents, law enforcement agencies remained vigilant in their pursuit of justice.
