Tension prevails at Kharkhari and Behrakudar villages under Madhuban police station of the district following  clash between the villagers over power supply from BCCL feeder at Kharkhari and surrounding area.

An irate mob of villagers from Kharkhari pelted stones at the villagers sitting before Madhuban PS, demanding power, as well as on the police officials. Locals alleged that someone opened fire in the air though  police were yet to recover any empty cartridge from the spot.

According to reports, villagers of Kharkhari disconnected power supply of villager Behrakudar on Friday evening saying they were not getting enough voltage due to the illegal connections in the village. This led to a minor clash between the villagers late Friday evening after which the power connection to the village was restored.

Villagers of Behrakudar reached Madhuban police station on Saturday morning demanding  arrest of some villagers who allegedly disconnect their power supply frequently.

Jaiprakash. inspector in-charge of Madhuban police station said, while villagers from Behrakudar were still sitting before the PS, a mob from village Kharkhari reached there and started pelting stones on them and beat them up with lathis.. They also damaged some bikes and four wheelers parked outside the police station. When the police interfered, they did not even spare the police and started pelting stones at the police  also.  The police then resorted to lathi charge to disperse the irate mob and brought the situation under control, informing the inspector.

The police are in the process of lodging different named FIRs against villagers of Kharkhari, said  SP (rural) Kapil Choudhary, who also visited the spot along with Baghmara SDPO Anand Jyoti Minz following the incident . It includes an FIR by the police for disturbing the government officials from discharging their duty and  attack on the police station besides two cases on the statement of villagers of  Behrakudar- one for assaulting them on Friday evening and the other for attacking them before the police station, said Rural SP.
