MANIT students’ protest demanding bikes in campus, continues

Thursday, 01 August 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Students continued to protest for the third day over the ban of entries  for two wheelers in Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal. During the protest, the movement of vehicles inside the campus was also stopped. In such a situation, there was a jam at the main gate of the institute.

Students claimed that the electricity of the hostel has been cut off and food is also not being provided in the mess. Their demand is that more than half of the students of the institute come and go by two wheelers.

In such a situation, by running only four e-buses, they will not be able to reach anywhere on time. Therefore, entry by bike should be started in the campus. All the departments in the institute are at a distance.

In fact, four e-buses were flagged off in MANIT on Sunday. Since then, the vehicles of the students are not being allowed to enter the gate. After the protest on Tuesday, the director had talked to the students and assured them to find a solution.

Police force remained deployed outside the MANIT campus during the protest. Only four e-buses for 6000 students.

Four different routes have been fixed for these buses. Only 50 students can sit in one bus.

MANIT management said that efforts are being made to make a green campus. They have banned bikes in view of the safety of students. The administration said that many accidents have happened in the recent past, so two-wheelers will not be allowed to enter. Other demands of the students will be considered. However, some students are protesting against this decision.

Due to the absence of elections of Students Council in MANIT, the voice of the students is suppressed. Therefore, elections should be held soon.

The quality of food in the mess should be taken care of and there should be transparency in the operation of the mess. The operation of the mess in number-7 and 12 hostels should be given back to the girl students.

Quality is required in library, gym, sports, medical. Also, the time should be increased so that the students can take full advantage.

Insects are found in the water coolers in the hostel, water tanks are not cleaned, plaster is falling off the walls, washrooms are not cleaned and the rooms are in a pathetic condition. Therefore, the hostel should be rebuilt.
