Man throws acid; wife critical, hospitalised

Sunday, 21 April 2024 | PNS | BALANGA

A woman suffered severe burn injuries when her husband allegedly threw acid on her on Friday evening at Badtota village under the Balanga police station in Puri district following an altercation between the couple.

The woman was rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The woman’s husband Babina Sathua of Champatipur in Nayagarh district came to his father-in-law’s house in Badatota and demanded his wife to give him Rs 2 lakh. When she refused, she threw acid on her. Then, he took Rs 2 lakh and some gold ornaments from an almirah and fled from the house.

Later, Babina’s father-in-law Hrusikesh Swain lodged an FIR at the Blanga police station. He alleged in his complaint that his daughter had a love marriage with Babina. But due to some disturbance in the marriage, his daughter was staying with him.

Following the complaint, police have launched a hunt to trace and nab the accused.
