Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University announces special seats for ‘Single Girl Child’ on Friday in line with the Government’s effort to promote ‘Girl Child Campaign’.
With the aim to promote girls’ higher education, a special provision has been made for them with one each supernumerary seat has been created for ‘Single Girl Child’ for admission in each of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at University School of Studies of the university from the academic session of 2024-25. “This will enable them to procure a seat and pursue their higher studies,” a spokesperson from the institution said.
The provision has been made under the GGSIP University Act, 1998. This seat will be allotted purely on the basis of merit of applicable National Level Test/ Common Entrance Test/ Merit of Qualifying Examination.
Vice Chancellor of GGSIPU Professor Mahesh Verma said, “As per this new provision, any single girl child; or in case of twins (both girls); and in case of twins (one boy and one girl), the girl child shall be eligible. This is yet another milestone towards women empowerment.”
This one seat shall be filled up on an All India Basis, which means there will be no regional allocation (Delhi/outside Delhi). Also, no other reservation on the basis of caste or economic background shall be applicable for such a seat. “Eligible candidates need to apply afresh, for which the application forms will be made available soon. In the new application form, the candidate has to mention the details of the earlier form filled online.
Any single girl child who has not applied earlier can also apply through the new application form,” the spokesperson said.
