In a heart-wrenching incident reported from Kushinagar district, a man was forced to sell his two-year-old son to settle the hospital bill and secure the release of his wife and newborn.
Harish Patel, the father, lacked the money to pay the hospital’s Rs. 4,000 bill. Desperate, and advised by hospital staff, he sold his second child to a couple for Rs 20,000. Financial desperation led to this tragic decision.
Harish Patel’s wife gave birth at a private hospital in Kushinagar. However, unable to pay the modest hospital bill, Harish was faced with an unimaginable decision. The hospital staff allegedly refused to release his wife and newborn until the bill was settled. Under immense pressure, Harish sold his two-year-old son, a heart-breaking choice made out of sheer desperation.
On getting information, the authorities quickly responded and recovered the child safely. Five individuals, including the couple who ‘purchased’ the child and two hospital employees, have been arrested.
The police confirmed that the ‘sale’ of the child was facilitated through fake adoption documents. The accused, including Bhola Yadav (the buyer), mediator Amresh Yadav, Tara Kushwaha and hospital staff, have been detained.
