Sinus cancer is a rare cancer of ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) area of body. Means, few people are affected with this ailment in sinus. But if someone gets this disease in sinus, it is necessary to get treatment early. Because vital organ like brain and eyes are near the sinus. So there is chance to spread cancer nearer organ. If it happens, our life is on threat. So early detection and early treatment is necessary.
An ENT Cancer surgeon from Patna, Dr. Mitali lall Dandekar says, “Many times symptoms of sinus cancer are like sinus. So sufferer doesn’t take it seriously. The symptoms are typical, as; continuous nose block of one side, bleeding from one side of nose, feeling like lump or ulcer on palate etc. If it happens regularly then we must take advice of ENT surgeon. So that problem may be recognized early. ”
ENT Cancer surgeon Dr. Mitali shed light on the type of sinus and told, there are four types of sinus; maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, frontal sinus and sphenoid sinus. Maxillary sinus is close to the throat and palate. If there is cancer in it then there is no sensation when the face is touched and there may be swelling in palate also. Ethmoid sinus is close to the eyes. If there is cancer in this area of sinus then swelling may be side by side the eyes. Frontal sinus and sphenoid sinus are close to the brain. Cancer of this section of sinus is rarest.
While Dr Mitali Dandekar was asked about the causes for sinus, she said, “Till now no cause can be indentified responsible for the sinus cancer. Many types of cancer can provoke cancer in sinus. Since cause of sinus cancer has not been identified, prevention has also not been decided by experts.”
