Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday congratulated Indian para pistol shooter Rubina Francis, who practices at Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Sirifort Sports Complex, for her bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024, stating that her association with the DDA has made her triumph even more special for Delhi and the authority.
The Lt Governor, Chairman of DDA, said, “DDA is playing pivotal role in the development of sports in the national capital. It has set up 17 sports complexes and two golf courses for the public of Delhi and NCR, which have been providing State of the Art infrastructure along with excellent coaching facilities in all sports to inculcate the spirit of sports among the citizens of Delhi.”
He added that DDA’s service for the entire sports community for over three decades has produced a large number of outstanding sportspersons. “Latest to join the elite club of outstanding sportspersons who have benefited from these sports complexes is Rubina Francis who has made the entire country proud by winning the Bronze Medal at the ongoing Paralympics Paris 2024 in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol (SH1 Category),” Saxena stated.
Francis practices regularly at the Siri Fort Sports Complex, which is the flagship sports Complex of DDA, under Head Coach Shri Subhash Rana. The Siri Fort Sports Complex has a 10 meter shooting range which has been recently upgraded to a fully electronic olympic standards range. Rubina had earlier won a Bronze Medal at the Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China in 2022.
“DDA is also planning to add more sports infrastructure with Centres of Excellence is being developed in many sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football, hockey in various sectors of Dwarka and Centre of Excellence in aquatics in Sector 33 Rohini. A public golf course is also being developed at Sector 24 Dwarka,” a statement by Raj Niwas said.
