Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday inaugurated the 73rd All India Police Athletic Cluster Championship at JawaharLal Nehru Stadium with Former Indian Cricketer Virender Sehwag and Former Captain and present Coach of Indian Hockey Team present as Rani Rampal Guest of Honour.
The events were started with a colorful march past by the participants with the Delhi Police band. Thereafter, a torch bearing ceremony took place by ACP Vijay Pal Singh Tomar. Saxena took salute from marching contingents and inaugurated the colorful event.In his address, the Chief Guest Saxena explained the importance of sports in daily life and mentioned that sports teach discipline and discipline is the key to success. He also quoted the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared with the Indian participants after the Paris Olympic, stating “Sports is a field in which no one ever loses and every player always learns something new.”
This event will witness participation of 1123 Police Personnel including 759 male and 364 female-364 participants, in which, 39 Teams from 25 States, four Union Territories and 10 CAPFs will compete for top Honors. There are 45 athletic events at JLN Stadium and seven cycling events at Rohini.
On the first day, the winners of 10 kilometers run event in the men's category include Prince Kumar (Uttar Pradesh Police) for gold medal, Mohd. Aleem (Uttar Pradesh Police) for silver medal and Balram (Uttar Pradesh Police) for bronze medal.
The winners of 10 kilometer run event women include Ujala (Uttar Pradesh Police) for gold medal, Renu (CISF) for silver medal and Mamta Paul (Uttar Pradesh Police) for bronze medal.
The winners of the 36.8 kilometer cycling event race include Anantha Narayanan SS (Kerala Police) for gold medal, Mandeep Singh (SSB) for silver medal, and Mukul (Uttar Pradesh Police) for bronze medal.
The results of pole vault women include KM Babita Patel (CISF) bagging the first prize, Reshma Raveendran (Kerala Police) for runner up and Divya Mohan (Kerala Police) for second runner up.
In the 10,000 metre male race, Prince Kumar (Uttar Pradesh) set a new record time of 29:03 minutes breaking the previous record of 29:30 minute.
Vijaya Kumari (CISF) also set a new record time of 11:78 minutes in 100 meter women's race breaking the previous record of 11:85 minutes.
