Society for Earth and Conservation (SEOC), a society for Multi-disciplinary Study and Research in collaboration with IQAC, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Ranchi has arranged 2nd lecture on a lecture series under the skill enhancement program on “Technology for sustainable development and Environment” based upon UGC-NAAC evaluation criteria. In the welcome address Dr. Ritesh Kumar Shukla, Department of Zoology, highlighted the importance and role of SEOC in multidisciplinary approach towards research and education for conservation of the environment and creating awareness about the new environmental challenges and issues.
The programme was started with an inspiring speech by Fr. (Dr.) Prabhat Soreng Kennedy s j. He explained the urgent needs to protect our environment from pollution including rapid misuse of non degradable plastic. Dr. N. Venkat Appa Rao, Department of Zoology explained about the harmful impact of microplastic. Dr. Sandeep Chandra, Department of Geography has explained the role of SEOC and organized the entire event. Dr. Utkarsha and a total of 106 undergraduate students of the Department of Geography and Botany actively attended the lecture and benefited from the scientific discussion. Dr. Shiv Shankar Prasad, Department of Biotechnology gave a vote of thanks at the end of the programme.
A scientific talk on title “Micro-plastics: A Hidden and Emerging Ecological Concern and its Implication on Environmental Health” was delivered by Ms. Dolly Krishnan, (Research Scholar, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh) in Fr. Proost Hall, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi on 30th May, 2024. The theme of the talk was to create awareness regarding the potential threats of micro-plastics on human health and the possible remedial measures to tackle the burning issues of micro-plastics hazards.
