Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal is organizing a lecture on the topic of 'Tribal Astronomy' under the Museum popular Lecture Series on 23 August 2024 at 4 pm in Rock Art Heritage Building.
The lecture will be addressed by Professor Mayank Vahia, Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research The program will be presided over by Director Prof. Amitabh Pandey. Prof. Vahia has been involved in the space program for the last 40 years, At TIFR he worked on building and operating four space telescopes, The telescope that they built went on an American vehicle, another from Russia and the rest were flown on Indian satellites. In this lecture, what is India's space program? How is it? How did it start? What does it do? What does it mean? We will explain this in detail.
Prof Mayank Vahia completed his PhD in Astrophysics from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1984. He continued his research work there till 2018. For the last two decades, he has been researching the history of science and astronomy and human evolution, megalithic and rock art, tribal astronomy, astronomy in ancient texts. He initiated the Astronomy and Junior Science Olympiad programmes in India and guided the Astronomy programme for over a decade.
