The Election Commission of India has directed payment of Rs 15 lakh as compensation to the survivors of the polling staff who died on duty due to heat stroke.
As many as 15 poll personnel have died in Mirzapur.
UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the district magistrates had been asked to file the report along with the post-mortem report of the poll personnel who died on duty.
According to a report from the principal of Mirzapur’s Maa Vindhyavasini Autonomous State Medical College, 13 poll staff died at the hospital. The deceased include seven home guard jawans, three sanitation workers, one clerk posted at the chief medical officer’s office, one chakbandi adhikari (consolidation officer), and one peon in the home guard team.
According to officials, in Sonbhadra district, two polling staff died due to heat-related causes while nine personnel are being treated at a hospital. In Kaushambi district, two people, including an elderly woman, died at the district hospital following heat stroke on Thursday.
