June 4 counting evokes larger interest than May 13 voting

Sunday, 02 June 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Voters did not take much interest in voting as this lok sabha election Palamu fell short of 2 percent of voting as compared to the 2019 lok sabha election.

However as the day of counting comes too close June 4, there is a feverish interest among the voters.

The popular refrain is that it won't be a cakewalk to the BJP candidate Vishnu Dayal Ram this lok sabha election who had won his 2019 lok sabha election by a margin of 4.75 lakhs of votes.

It is said that this time there will be a close fight between the BJP and the RJD.

BSP's Kameshwar Baitha was nowhere around. The remaining 6 candidates in the poll fray were just characters in the ballot unit here for the Palamu lok sabha seat.

Civil and police administration here are aware of the delicacy of the close fight as then the rise of passion and sentiment will be most vehement and abrupt.

Palamu has had a history of poll victories by less than 3 dozen votes. Of course it was in the vidhan sabha election.

Poll analysts say the lesser the victory margin, the bigger will be the issue of the maintenance of the law and order here in Palamu.

Unlike Bihar where post counting violence shakes the state, here in Jharkhand's Palamu it is a selective backlash.

Poll backlash is no alien to Palamu. Voters have been dragged out of the houses for voting others.

Just almost two weeks from June 4 counting Muslims will have their Bakrid festival which is as sensitive a festival as one can imagine.

DC Shashi Ranjan and SP Reeshma Ramesan have made it very clear in the beginning  that administration will not brook any aberration in the garb of over joy in the event of the victory of any side. One has to be in one's limit is the line of the civil and police administration here in Palamu.
