JNAC removes illegal structures from Sakchi SNP Area

Saturday, 22 June 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In compliance with directives from the District Administration, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) undertook a significant encroachment removal operation in the Sakchi SNP area on Thursday. The action targeted Chhaganlal Dayaljee Jewellers and HDFC Bank, both located at Holding No. 105. Prior to the intervention, both establishments had preemptively cleared bikes and other items from outside their premises, anticipating the enforcement action.

The operation follows a recent order from the Jharkhand High Court mandating the removal of encroachments and unauthorized buildings within the city. In response, the Jamshedpur Scheduled Area Committee (JNAC) has initiated a comprehensive campaign aimed at addressing these issues. This campaign focuses on structures that exceed the approved construction maps and encroach on public spaces.

Arvind Tirkey, the special officer of JNAC, is spearheading this initiative. He emphasized the campaign’s commitment to restoring order and legality in urban construction. "Encroachments are being systematically removed across the city," Tirkey stated. He highlighted that strict actions are being enforced against property owners who repurpose basement parking areas for commercial uses. Additionally, any illegal constructions within basements are being demolished as part of this extensive drive.

The specific action on Thursday saw the removal of encroachments from the front areas of Chhaganlal Dayaljee Jewelers and HDFC Bank. Despite the preemptive measures taken by these establishments to clear the area, JNAC officials proceeded with their mandate to ensure complete compliance with the legal and regulatory frameworks.

This operation is part of a broader, ongoing campaign by the JNAC to eliminate unauthorized constructions and reclaim public spaces for their intended use. By targeting high-profile establishments and rigorously enforcing regulations, the JNAC aims to set a precedent that discourages future violations. The campaign has been receiving widespread attention, signaling the district administration’s resolve to maintain urban order and infrastructure integrity.

While the businesses compiled by removing obstructive items, the community's reaction has been mixed. Some residents and business owners appreciate the efforts to maintain clear public spaces and adhere to building regulations. However, others express concerns about the potential economic impact and disruptions caused by such operations.

Special Officer Arvind Tirkey reiterated that the JNAC will continue to monitor and enforce regulations against encroachments and unauthorized constructions. "We are committed to ensuring that the city’s development adheres strictly to approved plans and legal standards," he said. This entails regular inspections and the prompt removal of any identified violations.
