Senior Congress leader and Jamshedpur East candidate, Dr. Ajoy Kumar, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 10 newborns in a fire at Jhansi Medical College. Offering condolences to the grieving families, Dr. Ajoy prayed for their strength during this devastating time.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, Dr. Ajoy lashed out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accusing him of indifference towards the tragedy. He criticized the Chief Minister for addressing the issue only through a tweet and continuing with election rallies instead of visiting the affected site.
"While the lives of many families were shattered, the Chief Minister was busy raising slogans of 'Batenge to Katenge' during rallies. This reflects the real character of BJP leadership, where power takes precedence over human lives," Dr. Ajoy remarked.
He further condemned the BJP's governance, calling out the mismanagement at the medical college where firefighting equipment had reportedly been non-functional for over a year. "The so-called double-engine government in Uttar Pradesh must explain how this tragedy fits into their narrative of development," he stated.
Drawing parallels with the 2017 Gorakhpur tragedy, where several lives were lost due to oxygen shortages, Dr. Ajoy accused the Yogi government of repeating a pattern of negligence and cover-ups. "An investigation committee has been formed, but the Chief Minister’s decision to avoid visiting the site shows a lack of sensitivity and responsibility," he added.
The Jhansi incident has sparked widespread outrage, with opposition leaders highlighting systemic failures and demanding accountability from the government.
