The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the bye-election in Jalandhar West (SC) assembly constituency. Nomination papers can be filed with the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA) Estate Officer, who is the Returning Officer for the constituency, from June 14 to June 21, 2024, between 11 am and 3 pm on non-holiday days.
A spokesperson, outlining key dates, said that scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 24, and the last date for withdrawal of papers is June 26. The polling will be done on July 10, and vote counting will be on July 13. Polling hours will be from 7 am to 6 pm. Nomination forms (Form 2B) are available with the Returning Officer, and typed forms are acceptable if they meet the prescribed format.
Candidates must be registered electors in the state and should present a certified copy of the relevant electoral roll entry, said the spokesperson. Notably, June 15 being the third Saturday is not a holiday, allowing nominations, whereas June 16 (Sunday) and June 17 (Id-ul-Zuha) are holidays, thus no nominations will be accepted on these dates.
The Model Code of Conduct has been in effect in Jalandhar West since June 10, 2024, and will continue until the election process concludes on July 15, 2024.
