Today, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was celebrated at University Law College. On this occasion, the Acting Principal, Rashmi Pradhan, said that World Drug Day is celebrated every year on June 26 to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a drug-free world. The UNODC continues to provide facts and practical solutions to address the current world drug problem and is committed to achieving health for all based on science.
Dr. Jaydeep Sanyal mentioned that in India, the Rajiv Gandhi government finally enacted a law against all types of narcotics and psychotropic substances in 1985, known as the NDPS Act. Advocate and Guest Faculty Shubham Kishore discussed the NDPS Act in detail. Until 1985, cannabis and its derivatives, including bhang, charas, and marijuana, were not banned in India. In 1961, the United States adopted the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. This was the first international treaty against drugs that categorized hard drugs along with cannabis and completely banned their use except for research and medical purposes.
The chief guest, Advocate Amarnath Mishra, discussed all the laws and provisions related to the regulation of the possession and use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The vote of thanks was given by Bharat Mishra. On this occasion, students Dheeraj and Tushar also shared their thoughts. The students Chittaranjan Kispotta and Suman Kumar were present. A quiz competition was also organized in which Amardeep, Muskan, and Rishi were awarded. In the painting competition, Shalini, Chahat, and Khushi were awarded. The event was hosted by Prabhakar.
