On February 13th, a significant milestone was achieved at the Bokaro Steel Plant with the inauguration of Torpedo Ladle Car (TLC) Number 01 for the transfer of hot metal from Blast Furnace to SMS#2. The auspicious ceremony was conducted by Mr. Birendra Kumar Tiwari, (New DIC ). During the inauguration, Mr. Tiwari applauded Team Blast Furnace for setting a new record by producing 4504 tons of daily hot metal from BF#5 on February 12, 2024, surpassing the previous best of 4447 tons achieved on April 30, 2023. Present at the event were V.P. Upadhyay, Chief General Manager (R&D),  V.K. Singh, Chief General Manager (MEK), A.K. Jha, Chief General Manager (Traffic),  Arvind Kumar, Chief General Manager (SMS#2),  M.P. Singh, Chief General Manager (BF), Mr. Jayant Joddar, Chief General Manager (BF-Operations), along with departmental officials and staff.

Notably the Blast Furnace department of Bokaro Steel Plant is currently utilizing 06 Torpedo Ladle Cars (TLC) for the transfer of hot metal from Blast Furnace to SMS#2. TLC Number 01, which had been out of operation for an extended period, has now been recommissioned. To reintegrate TLC into operations, a team led by  M.P. Singh, Chief General Manager (Blast Furnace), and comprising Jayant Joddar, Chief General Manager (Operations), and  Manas Sarkar, Chief General Manager (Maintenance), was formed. Necessary preparations including assembly of traveling car, procurement of cooling and refractory lining, were undertaken with assistance from Capital Repair (Mechanical) and R&D to facilitate the operation. With the reintegration of TLC Number 01, the total number of operational TLCs has increased to 07.

The utilization of TLC offers several advantages, including maintaining the temperature of hot liquid iron compared to open top ladles, and its capacity to carry 340 tons of hot metal, resulting in reduced logistic time and increased capacity.
