Two-week monsoon session of HP Assembly to start August 27, will have 10 sittings

Shimla: The Monsoon Session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly would start on August 27 and continue till September 9, according to a notification issued by House Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Tuesday.
An official statement said the two-week-long session would have 10 sittings. There would be no sittings on Saturdays and MLAs can send their questions to the Assembly Secretariat both online and offline.  The session, being held for the first time after the Lok Sabha polls and the bypolls, would see the 40 Congress MLAs and the BJP 28 in the 68-member House. There are no Independent MLAs.  Also, for the first time, the House would see a husband-wife duo as MLAs. Chief Mister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's wife Kamlesh Thakur recently won the bypolls from the Dehra assembly seat.

Bypoll to one Rajya Sabha seat in Hry on Sept 3

Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced that the election for one vacant seat of Rajya Sabha in Haryana will be held on September 3. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, with the scrutiny of nominations scheduled for August 22. Polling will take place on September 3 from 9 AM to 4 PM, with the counting of votes commencing at 5 PM on the same day.  The Seat fell vacant in Haryana after Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda won the Lok Sabha Election from Rohtak. Notably, Deepender was elected Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana on a Congress party ticket for 6 years from March 2020.

ECI team to visit Hry on Aug 12 & 13: CEO

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal on Wednesday said that the Election Commission of India team will visit Haryana on August 12 and 13. He said this in a meeting with all Deputy Commissioners cum District Election Officers of the state through video conferencing in Chandigarh. In a statement, Agarwal said that ECI team members will review the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. Agarwal further said that engineers from Bharat Electronics Limited are conducting the first-level checking of EVMs in all 22 districts of the State. All district election officers must ensure that representatives of recognised political parties in the state are present during the checking. Agarwal directed all district election officers to direct BLOs and registration officers to ensure no forms are pending with them. The Chief Electoral Officer also stated that 817 new polling booths have been set up for this year's assembly elections, bringing the total number of polling booths in the state to 20,629. He urged district election officers to personally inspect the polling booths as well.

Delegation of Alvi Community meets Hry CM

Chandigarh: A delegation of the Alvi community met Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi on Wednesday and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving the construction of Alvi Bhawan in Pinangwan. It is noteworthy that during the Raja Hasan Khan Mewati 'Shaheedi Diwas' the former Chief Minister had announced the construction of Alvi Bhawan. The Gram Panchayat of Pinangwan has already sent a proposal for the land required for Alvi Bhawan to the government. An amount of Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned and the foundation stone of the building will be laid in the last week of August for the same.
