ICONS-24 concludes with resounding consensus on ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’

The two days conference “International Conference on Steel (ICONS-24): Focus on Capital Goods”, organized jointly by MECON Limited and SAIL, under the aegis of Ministry of Steel concluded on May 31 with great zeal and enthusiasm with a resolution for shaping a brighter steel market landscape with special focus on manufacturing capital Goods in India leading to “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. It stressed on large scale and rapid indigenization of competitive technologies and Capital Goods manufacturing that would reduce dependence on foreign technology suppliers & manufacturers and will also help reduce the outflow of foreign currency.

The conference witnessed an impressive presence and lineup of keynote speakers, expert panelists & speakers from a wide spectrum of the steel industry. Various sessions included technical sessions, panel discussions and interactive sessions. Participants had insightful discussions on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities of the steel industry. The conference deliberated on India’s potential to manufacture capital goods and also the challenges being faced by it for its large-scale indigenization. The Conference provided a dynamic platform for critical dialogue and knowledge exchange. It also provided an opportunity to the stakeholders to think in the direction of strategic collaborations.

Secretary-Ministry of Steel, Nagendra Nath Sinha, Joint Secretary, MoS, Abhijit Narendra, Jt. Secretory, MoS, Dr. Sanjay Roy, CMD & Director (commercial)-Addl. Charge-MECON, Sanjay Kumar Verma, Director (Finance),MECON, Mukesh Kumar Director (Technical), MECON, Amit Raj, Director (Projects), MECON, Pradyuman Kumar Dixit, Executive Director (CET) SAIL, Shrawan Kumar Verma were present on this occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Secretary-Ministry of Steel, NN Sinha said that the large-scale manufacturing of Capital Goods indigenously will give a big boost to steel demand in the country. Besides it will open the avenues of large-scale employment generation, provide opportunities for technology absorption and building-up of indigenous design & advanced manufacturing capabilities. All this will serve the country to a great extent in becoming self-reliant.

 

The conference had following sessions on the concluding day: Trends and Challenges in Rolling Mills Technology, Trends and Challenges in Secondary Steel Making Technology and an Open House Panel Discussion.

ICONS24 served as a catalyst for transformative ideas and practical solutions with resolution for collaboration and collective action by the stakeholders towards self-reliant India ( Atma Nirbhar Bharat).
