The national Capital sizzled as South Delhi’s Aya nagar area recorded maximum temperature at 46 degrees celsius on Saturday amid heatwave conditions prevailing in most places in the city and severe heatwave conditions in isolated parts with strong surface winds.
Safdarjung weather station, considered as a parameter for the whole of Delhi, recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season’s average. The minimum temperature settled at 32.4 degrees celsius, five degrees above the normal. The maximum humidity level recorded was 43 per cent while the minimum was 22 per cent.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heat index or feel like temperature stood at 45.6 degrees celsius in the city while many people shared that the temperature felt like 48 degrees or above.
Other stations also recorded temperatures that hovered around 45 degrees celsius. Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 45 degrees celsius, Lodhi road 44.7 degrees celsius, and Ridge 45.4 degrees celsius.
Temperatures for the rest of the weather stations, including Narela and Najafgarh which have been recording highest temperatures in the city, were not available in the regional met websites. Mungeshpur and Delhi University’s temperature have not been published on the IMD website for more than two weeks.
