Govt not allowing Hindu refugees from B’desh to enter India: Ajay Rai

Monday, 12 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Former minister and president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Ajay Rai has criticised the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their handling of Hindu refugees from Bangladesh.

Rai accused the BJP government of deceit, claiming that Hindu refugees trying to enter India are being turned away at the border, while Yogi Adityanath claims about their government protecting Hindus and also accuses the opposition claiming that they were ‘silent’ on the safety of the community.

Rai expressed his discontent with Yogi Adityanath’s “irresponsible statements” regarding the sensitive issue of Bangladesh. He highlighted that during a multi-party meeting called by the government, the opposition unanimously supported action on the issue, with Rahul Gandhi raising concerns over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and questioning the Indian government’s measures to address the issue.

Rai accused Yogi Adityanath of exploiting the situation for electoral gains by spreading religious animosity in Uttar Pradesh instead of addressing the issue with the Central government.

He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the multi-party meeting on this critical issue further revealed the insensitivity of the government towards the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.

Rai advised Yogi Adityanath to avoid making irresponsible and insensitive statements on such a delicate matter.
