The speakers of the second day technical session of the Week long Workshop on "Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Research," at BIT Sindri Dr. Maya RajNarayan Ray, Dr. Vikas Kumar Vidyarthi, Dr. Sucharita Pradhan, and Satiprasad Sahoo delivered their views on different issues .
Organised by the Department of Civil Engineering of the institute the seminar has been sponsored by the Jharkhand Council on Science, Technology, and Innovation (JCSTI), Ranchi.
On the second day, a dynamic blend of technical insights and hands-on experiences unfolded, with the intellectual discussions and the practical explorations. The technical session commenced with the knowledgeable words of Dr. Maya RajNarayan Ray, associate professor, BIT Sindri, Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Her concerning topics were the application of GIS in sustainable water resources management. She began her lecture by connecting knowledge of Vedic period people with modern-era achievements in GIS. As the lecture advanced, she threw light on various applications of GIS ranging from agriculture, resources management, water resources management, infrastructure, slope stability analysis, etc. The lecture concluded with the elaborate explanation of the data structure of GIS.
Other Dr. Vikas Kumar Vidyarthi, an assistant professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, Chhattisgarh, provided valuable insights into the application of remote sensing and machine learning (ML) techniques in the analysis and prediction of land use/land cover (LU/LC).
In the second session took a deep dive into the cutting-edge world of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS), led by the insightful Dr. Sucharita Pradhan, a distinguished scientist from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at OUAT, Bhubaneswar. With her wealth of practical experience, Dr. Pradhan illuminated the powerful role these technologies play in transforming watershed planning and management.
Dr. Satiprasad Sahoo, water resources engineering, ICARDA, Egypt, who presented his practical knowledge on the fundamentals of the RS process, EMR spectrum, wavelength, and application.
Dr. Jitu Kujur, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering presented momentos to the guest speaker. The session concluded with Dr. Komal Kumari extending her gratitude to the director of BIT Sindri, the honoured guests, faculty members, and students of the Civil Engineering Department. The event saw full participation from all graduate and postgraduate students of the department, as well as senior professors, including Dr. Udai Kumar Singh, Dr. Nishikant Kisku, Dr. Brahmdeo Yadav, Dr. Maya RajNarayan Ray, Dr. Komal Kumari, Prof. Iqbal Shaikh, Prof. Saroj Meena, and Prof. Prashant Ranjan Malviya, who were contributory in making the event a colossal success.
