A comprehensive investigation in the case of electricity consumers in the state getting the benefit of subsidy by installing several meters in the name of one family would be conducted after irregularities are found in Arera Colony.

All the electricity companies of the state have been instructed to go to the consumers' place and investigate and if there is more than one meter in a family, then get it cancelled so that the fake people taking advantage of the subsidy can be separated. To make this system effective, all consumers have also been directed to get e-KYC done.

It has come to the notice of the MPEB that to get the benefit of subsidy on hundred units of electricity from the state government, lakhs of consumers across the state have taken multiple connections in the name of the same family by showing different divisions.

In such a situation, even if the electricity consumption is high in the same house, the consumption appears to be less due to the installation of several meters. The consumer gets the direct benefit of this in the form of subsidy. Therefore, action will now be taken across the state to stop this.

Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar reviewed the work of the department with the officers of the Energy Department on Tuesday. During this, he said that the cases of electricity theft should be resolved within the time limit. Recovery of electricity bills should be done promptly. Also, supply quality electricity to the consumers. Maintenance should be done on time.

Tomar said that e-KYC of electricity consumers should be done. He said that a family should have only one meter in the house. Additional Chief Secretary Energy Manu Srivastava said that verification of agricultural pumps is being done.

Additional Chief Secretary Energy Manu Srivastava on Monday inspected the premises of domestic electricity consumers taking benefit of subsidy in E-1, E-3 and E-4 areas of Arera Colony in Bhopal city. During the inspection, it was found that contrary to the rules, subsidy is being availed by taking more than one connection in large residential complexes.

Expressing his displeasure over this, he had instructed the meter readers of the concerned area to identify such connections.
