The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Ajay Kumar Singh as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. The Election Commission issued the order related to this on Monday afternoon.
After the instructions of the Election Commission, the charge of Jharkhand DGP post was withdrawn from 1990 batch IPS Anurag Gupta and he was instructed to hand over this charge to Ajay Kumar, posted as MD of Jharkhand Police Housing. Regarding this, a notification was issued by the Home Prison and Disaster Management Department on the evening of October 19.
The Election Commission had directed the Jharkhand government on October 19 to immediately remove DGP Anurag Gupta and hand over the charge to the most senior DGP officer available in the cadre. According to the information, the Election Commission had taken this decision on the basis of the action taken by the Election Commission against Anurag Gupta in the 2019 elections. The Election Commission had also asked the state government to follow its instructions and submit a report by 7 pm on October 19.
The Election Commission had also asked the state government to send a panel of senior IPS officers to be considered for the post by 10 am on Monday. On July 26, the Jharkhand government appointed Anurag Gupta, a 1990 batch IPS officer, as the in-charge DGP of Jharkhand.
