Durga idols' immersion peaceful after tension in Garhwa

The ruckus over idol immersion in Garhwa district has now ended. The dispute over the route for immersion of Goddess Durga's idol in Madgadi village of Bhandaria police station area has ended. After lathi charge by the police, ASP Rahul Dev Baraik got injured in stone pelting by the violent mob and tear gas was released as well as air firing, the atmosphere remained tense till  Sunday evening.

 

On Sunday late evening around 8 pm, Garhwa Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Jamuar, SP Deepak Kumar Pandey, Ranka SDM Rudra Pratap, local MLA Alok Kumar Chorasia and other senior officials reached the Puja pandal of Madgadi village. Where talks took place between the Puja committee and representatives of the special community. During this, both sides agreed to immerse the idol from the disputed road. After the agreement, the idol of Maa Durga was taken around the village on the disputed route along with the DC, SP and policemen. Where the idol of Goddess Durga was immersed in the Kanhar river at around 1 am on Monday.

 

On Saturday afternoon at around 3 o'clock, there was a clash between the villagers and the police over the immersion of the idol on the disputed road. After which the police fired tear gas shells in addition to lathi charge. The villagers also said that firing was done. In this incident, a youth was injured as well as ASP Rahul Dev Baraik, Ranka DSP Rohit Ranjan and many others were injured. After  that the atmosphere remained tense throughout Dussehra regarding the immersion of the idol on the disputed road. When the matter was not resolved by both the communities four times in the police station, the administration had stopped the disputed road.
