Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, addressed the residents and students protesting on Monday, following the incident at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Extending his wishes for Rakshabandhan, Professor Singh assured the protestors that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is closely monitoring the situation and is actively working towards a resolution. AIIMS Bhopal is also engaging with various stakeholders to address the concerns arising from the protest.
Emphasizing the importance of doctor safety, Professor Singh stated, "The safety of doctors is a very sensitive issue, and it is our responsibility to ensure it. We will take all necessary steps to protect our medical professionals." He appealed to the residents and students, urging them to remember that protests should not disrupt patient care. "As doctors, we must always ensure that no patient leaves without receiving treatment due to our actions. Protests should be conducted in a way that minimizes disruption to hospital operations so that patients continue to receive care," he added.
Professor Singh expressed his solidarity with the protestors, stating, "I stand with you in this protest and will do everything within the legal framework to meet your demands."
In a gesture of sympathy and support, Professor Singh, on behalf of the AIIMS Bhopal family, planted a tree in the name of the young doctor from Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College who was affected by the incident, as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. The tree plantation event saw participation from protesting residents, students, faculty members, and officers, reinforcing the commitment of AIIMS Bhopal to both environmental sustainability and the well-being of its community.
