Distance from the RSS took BJP away from its goal

Thursday, 13 June 2024 | Shahnawaz Hassan

Many reasons may be cited for the defeat of BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha elections, but the biggest reason is the distance from the RSS. Probably, this is the first election in which BJP did not consult the RSS from the selection of candidates to prepare the election strategy. Hence, the RSS also confined itself to its ideological programs. Due to which BJP had to suffer a huge loss. This was the first election in which the distance between the Sangh Parivar and BJP was seen in election management. BJP did not even feel the need to consult it in any strategy decision.

According to the information received, ticket distribution in BJP was being done by the members of Amit Shah's team in which no consultation was being taken from the Sangh ...or the BJP Organization General Secretary. Even CM Yogi did not have a say in the ticket distribution.  Annoyed by this attitude of the BJP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh maintained silence. The Sangh volunteers, who usually assist in ground management in elections, distanced themselves from the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections. According to sources associated with the Sangh, after the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the narcissistic BJP had started ignoring the Sangh Parivar in its political decisions.

The statement of BJP National President JP Nadda regarding the Sangh also removed the remaining gap. When the BJP ignored the advice of the Sangh Parivar and took several decisions one after the other, which were bound to have an adverse effect on the credibility and concerns of the organization, the Sangh also withdrew its role. Some differences had also emerged regarding the Pran-Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala in Ayodhya.

The indifference of the Sangh volunteers cost the BJP heavily in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The volunteers did not like the statement given by BJP President JP Nadda on RSS in the middle of the elections. Bringing an army of tainted leaders from outside to BJP and giving them tickets was also not liked by the Sangh. Maharashtra is a big example of this. The neglect of the dedicated workers of BJP is also a major reason for this. Apart from this, this time BJP repeated a large number of its candidates in Uttar Pradesh. The party had to bear the brunt of this too. Mayawati's Bahujan Samajwadi Party played an important role in the seats that BJP got, Mayawati made the path of victory easy for BJP on about 16 seats.

If it is said that the main reason for BJP's loss of 5 seats in Jharkhand is the complete dominance of BJP leaders who came from JVM over the party, it will not be wrong. In Jharkhand, from the party president to the leader of the opposition, only leaders who came from JVM were given a place. Leaders who were dedicated to BJP were pushed to the sidelines. Those who broke away from BJP were rewarded for returning to BJP.  The internal strife in BJP was such that BJP leaders themselves became the reason for the defeat of former Chief Minister Arjun Munda. Now in such circumstances, the possibility of BJP's comeback in the assembly elections in states like Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar does not seem to be far-fetched.
