Dist admin takes action on school for forcing parents to buy books from specific shop

District administration team reached Queen Mary Senior Secondary School after parents were directed to buy books and uniforms from specific shops.

The message was sent to the parents' group from the school teacher's mobile number. After this, on Saturday, the district administration team reached the school and took statements from teachers and parents.

In the message sent to the school's WhatsApp group, students and parents were asked to buy their children's books from Sahitya Sarovar Anand Nagar and uniforms from Gupta Store Gandhi Market Piplani. A 26-page PDF file has been shared with the message. It mentions the books, publishers and prices of students from nursery to class 12th.

After the message went viral, school teacher Anita Nair was called to know her side about sending a message to the parents' group to buy books and uniforms from a specific shop, but she did not pick up the call.

SDM Ravish Srivastava said that we have taken action against Queen Mary School. They have been questioned. Statements of teachers and parents have also been taken. We have asked for some documents from the school, which were not available, for this they have been given one day's time. After this further action will be taken as per rules.

Information about the book list to be taught in classes from nursery to class 12th has been given in the 26-page PDF file shared in the school's parents group. Apart from NCERT books, 29 publications have been included in these books. Parents have been asked to buy these for students of different classes.

The price of books of private publications included in the 26-page book list is also written. But, the price of NCERT books included in the syllabus is not mentioned in the list. The school management has made this arrangement in the book list on the basis of the rate list of books received from private publishers.

Not a single NCERT book is included in the syllabus from nursery to 5th class

Not a single NCERT book has been included in the syllabus from nursery to class 5 in the school. All the books included in the syllabus of these classes are from private publications. Whereas the state government has instructed private schools to include NCERT books in their syllabus.

Anita Nair, a teacher of Queen Mary School located in Rajiv Nagar, has shared a PDF on the WhatsApp group (9A 2024-25) of parents to buy books. In this, she clearly mentioned the name of the book shop and the address of the uniform shop. While sharing the PDF for                `parents, she has given the address of Sahitya Sarovar located in Anand Nagar in the name of book shop and Gupta Store Gandhi Market Piplani in the name of uniform shop. When an attempt was made to talk to Anita Nair to talk about this, but she did not talk.

Meanwhile, SDM Ravish Srivastava says that the matter will be investigated immediately and action will be taken as per rules. At the same time, District Education Officer Anjani Kumar said - The administration has formed committees in this matter. The complaint is going to the committees. Investigation is being done from there. The complaint has been transferred to the complaint committee. The committee will submit the report after investigation.

According to orders issued by District Collector before the start of the next academic session, all private schools should paste the list of books class wise along with the name and price of the author and publisher of the book and the list of school uniform sellers on the school board.

The name of the school should not be printed on any type of teaching material. It should be written on the school notice board that from where the teaching material will be available. Do not force anyone to buy teaching material from a single shop.

Apart from books, no attempt will be made to make uniforms, ties, shoes, copies etc. available or sold from their own schools.

The school stationery or uniform will not be sold from shops by printing the name of the school on it.

Selling material from a particular shop has been banned.

All SDMs and the education department will ensure that the order is followed.

In case of violation of the order, a case will be registered against the school operator, principal under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. It is being told whether it is uniform or books, or any type of stationery. Parents were having to pay arbitrary prices for them. Sets of books from class 1st to 8th were available for Rs 2500 to Rs 6000. After which the collector issued this order.
