Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Kumar Singh has given instructions that it is mandatory for the DIG of the range to visit the district where large scale drug seizures will be made.
A review meeting was held through video conferencing today on Thursday regarding action against drug trafficking. SPs, SSPs of all districts, DIGs of the range and zonal IGs attended this meeting.
Singh expressed displeasure over the production of drugs in Chatra and Khunti districts. He also directed the SPs of both the districts to pay special attention to this. The DGP said that where opium cultivation was destroyed, opium is being cultivated again at the same place, action should also be ensured on this.
Jharkhand has always been under question regarding the production of other drugs including opium. Its production and consumption has increased. Many times the High Court has also taken cognizance and directed action.
According to Jharkhand Police, about 2024 cases have been registered in the last five years. The highest number of cases of opium production and consumption has been registered in Chatra, Palamu, Latehar and Ranchi while about 4949 people have been arrested in the above cases through the Anti Narcotics Task Force. A long term plan has been prepared to solve this problem.
